TikTok Creator Search Insights helps you explore what people are searching for and turn relevant topics into content ideas. Open TikTok’s search, enter Creator Search Insights and tap View to access the tool.
For a business or creator, the useful question is which of those topics belongs in your content plan. This guide explains the current controls, then gives you an original worksheet for choosing an audience question, planning a useful answer and connecting that video with an appropriate next step.
How to use TikTok Creator Search Insights
- Open the tool using the search route above.
- Browse with filters such as Content gap or search for a topic.
- Open a topic to inspect its search popularity, related videos and related topics.
- Use Favourites to save a useful idea for later.
The Searches by followers filter requires more than 1,000 followers; that threshold applies to this filter. TikTok’s current Creator Search Insights instructions explain the controls. They also note that turning off personalization stops personalized topic suggestions.
Use Content gap to find a question you can answer
Content gap highlights searched topics that may lack enough content. TikTok’s official feature introduction describes how these suggestions help creators develop relevant ideas. Your next job is to decide what useful answer your own audience would expect.
Read the topic as a question from a person. For example, a phrase about organizing a small desk might mean someone needs a layout, a storage solution or a way to manage cables. Look at the available videos and related topics to understand which problem you can explain clearly.
Choose a subject you can demonstrate with your own knowledge, product or process. If the topic is broad, narrow the angle until you can state the video’s purpose in one sentence. “I will show how to store a laptop charger and two cables in one desk drawer” gives the production team a specific task.
Check audience fit before you start recording
A promising topic should make sense for the people you want to attract. Use these questions to decide whether to film it now, develop it further or leave it for another creator.
| Question | What a useful answer looks like |
|---|---|
| Who needs this? | A recognizable viewer whose interests fit your account |
| What are they trying to do? | One task, decision or question you can explain |
| What can we show? | Your own demonstration, example or informed explanation |
| Why does this belong here? | A clear connection with your expertise or business |
| What might they need next? | A relevant follow-up video, product detail or service explanation |
This check is especially useful for a team managing several brands. Save the reason for choosing the topic with the brief. An editor should be able to understand the intended audience without seeing the original research session.
Example: turn a desk-storage topic into a useful video
Imagine a shop that sells drawer organizers. This is a hypothetical planning example, not a claim about an actual search result or campaign performance. The team is considering a topic about storing charging cables in a small workspace.
The first idea, “Our organizers are great,” gives viewers little to learn. The revised brief is more concrete: show a tangled drawer, sort the cables by use, demonstrate one layout and explain which compartment holds the charger. The video answers a practical question while showing the product in context.
The opening could be: “Here is how I arrange a laptop charger and everyday cables in one small drawer.” The filmed example then delivers exactly that. A closing invitation such as “See the organizer dimensions in our profile link” offers a useful next step to someone deciding whether it fits their own drawer.
Before publishing, the team checks that the linked product page actually shows those dimensions. Our TikTok bio-link setup guide explains how to prepare that connection and check the mobile destination.
Copy this topic-to-video worksheet
Use one card or document for each selected idea. Keep the brief short enough to use during filming and detailed enough to preserve the reason behind the video.
- Topic: record the wording you researched and the date you reviewed it.
- Audience: name the kind of viewer the video is for.
- Question: write the one thing that viewer wants to understand or do.
- Answer: outline the demonstration or explanation you will deliver.
- Evidence: identify the materials, example or product details needed to support the answer.
- Opening: draft a first sentence that makes the subject clear.
- Next step: choose a relevant follow-up action, if one helps the viewer.
- Review: set a review date and note what would help you improve the next version.
Separate the research phrase from the script. Use wording that a viewer can understand naturally. Check the finished video against the question in the brief: does it provide the answer, or does it spend most of its time introducing the business?
Create the post and review its search performance
Within the tool, use Create a video beside a topic, or open the topic and tap Create. For search performance, go to Analytics. Choose All posts for the broader view or Inspired posts for content created from topics in Creator Search Insights.
Record the reporting period and the observations available in your account. Compare each post with its original brief. Viewer questions can reveal a missing step or a useful follow-up demonstration. Keep the topic, creative changes and review notes together so you can explain what you learned.
For website visits associated with a campaign link, our social media UTM tracking guide explains a consistent naming process. Consider search performance and website actions as different parts of the journey, then choose the next improvement based on the evidence you have.
Turn the research into your next content brief
Start with one topic that fits your audience and that you can demonstrate well. Complete the worksheet, prepare the example and make the next step relevant. At the review, decide whether to clarify the answer, create a follow-up or test another topic from your saved ideas.
